WWE.com: SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos Defend Against Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable

The newest rivalry in SmackDown’s Tag Team division finally hits the ring Tuesday in England, as The Usos defend their SmackDown Tag Team Titles against the tandem of Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable.

After winning a Fatal 4-Way Match to earn a future title opportunity, the mat wrestling masters almost immediately set out to get under the champions’ skin. Benjamin & Gable initially approached Jimmy & Jey in what appeared to be a handshake offering of sportsmanship ahead of their title match, only to pull their hands away at the last second. The challengers continued antagonizing the champions two weeks later, revealing that their title match would take place this Tuesday in Manchester.

The Usos have had their sights set on Survivor Series and their Champions vs. Champions showdown with the Raw Tag Team Champions. Before they can focus on a battle with new titleholders Cesaro & Sheamus, however, Jimmy & Jey must get through Benjamin & Gable. Who will move on to Houston?

Hell In A Cell 2017 Kickoff Preview: Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. The Hype Bros

Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley have been mired in a slump recently, but they’ll have to get on the same page, and fast, because Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin are lying in wait at WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff.

While The Hype Bros have been on a cold streak ever since SummerSlam, Gable took the proverbial lemons (Jason Jordan going to Raw and the subsequent split-up of American Alpha) and made them into lemonade when SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan signed Shelton Benjamin to be Gable’s new tag team partner. The two amateur standouts gelled instantly, while Ryder & Rawley suffered miscue after miscue on consecutive episodes of the blue brand.

The tension between the two Hype Bros seemed to reach something of a boiling point in the backstage area last week right as Gable & Benjamin were conducting an interview, leading to a brief jaw-jack between the teams. Due to the heated confrontation, SmackDown LIVE management sanctioned a bout between them at WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff. Now, a win for Gable & Benjamin wouldn’t just potentially move them within orbit of the SmackDown Tag Team Championship — it might be enough to derail the hype train for good.

Tune in to WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff to see the tag team action, which streams live at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network and can be seen on a free stream on WWE.com, the WWE App, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Shelton Benjamin Mentions Chad Gable In Recent Interview With WWE.com

With his return to WWE, Shelton Benjamin recently had an interview with WWE.com, where he talked about several subjects including his journey back to the WWE, his thoughts on Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar, what he wants to achieve now that he is back, as well as his thoughts on Chad Gable. Here’s what he had to say:

WWE.COM: Thankfully, it worked out. You’ve already touched on what it’s like to be back in WWE. What are your thoughts on your new tag team partner, Chad Gable, and do you see any comparisons to your former tag team partner, Charlie Haas?

BENJAMIN: Without a doubt. Chad is a great athlete, just like Charlie. Before I even get into that, though, Charlie Haas is, to this day, still my best friend. He’s my brother. We talk all the time. WWE created family when they put us together. We worked hard together and he helped push me. When you insert Chad Gable, obviously, there is going to be the comparisons to Charlie. I don’t like to make that comparison because they’re two different people. This isn’t The World’s Greatest Tag Team, this isn’t American Alpha — we are something completely different. But, obviously, there are similarities. They’re both tremendous athletes. They both have great drive, and even in the past couple of weeks I’ve seen Gable show signs of the intensity that Charlie had.
