Your Premier Source For The Latest News And Photos Of Former Olympian And WWE Superstar Chad Gable The 10 Most Exciting Tag Teams Ever

#7. American Alpha

Yes, yes, they’re new. Who cares? This team of wrestling machines has been pushing the limit in NXT for close to a year now, riding the wave of a fun catchphrase (“Ready, Willing and Gable”) and the kind of hybrid style that keeps opponents guessing – often fruitlessly – of ways to keep up. True, they aren’t much for high-flying, but Jason Jordan & Chad Gable are mat-game innovators, bending boundaries and opponents’ joints in ways never thought possible. We always used to wonder what would happen if there were two Kurt Angles. Now we know.

Article: American Alpha Interview – WWE NXT Tag Team Sensations

Chad Gable and Jason Jordan recently spoke to The Sport Bible, during NXT’s recent UK tour about being on the NXT roster, the British crowds reception of American Alpha, winning the NXT Tag Team Championship in Dallas, Breaking Ground and several other topics.

Tag team matches are a regular part of professional wrestling and have been for a lengthy period.

The tag team concept is so different, bringing a different style and endless possibilities to the table as well as giving former Smackdown general manager Teddy Long his prized catchphrase.

Single matches are enjoyable but there is something that gravitates fans to the art of tag-team wrestling because of the psychology and furious action that comes with it.

There was a time in WWE where the scope wasn’t on tag team wrestling, but that’s not the case today. A strong blend of styles have culminated in some wonderful tag team match-ups, but the best tag team match in recent memory undoubtedly goes to the classic served up by American Alpha and The Revival at NXT Takeover: The End.

Alpha have transcended into one of the hottest acts in NXT, thanks in part to a series of incredible ovations in NXT’s UK tour in December. Both members of the team, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan, have impressive amateur wrestling credentials. Gable is a former Olympian, while his partner Jordan is a two-time NCAA Division One qualifier; they are legitimately accomplished athletes.

But in the world of WWE, that’s not always enough. It’s all about connecting with the audience, so much so that the in-ring skill can sometimes to take a backseat. However the team of American Alpha are in many ways the perfect tag team, combining flawless technique with natural charisma. They are already being touted as the future of the tag-team division in WWE.

I sat down with the dynamic duo before a NXT live show in Liverpool and was left with no doubt that these two talented and grounded individuals are destined for big things.

The Revival def. NXT Tag Team Champions American Alpha

The tension between the NXT Tag Team Champions and their challengers was palpable, as the determined duo of Dash & Dawson set out to reclaim the titles they crave. The Revival succeeded early on by isolating Chad Gable, but there was little the surly pair could do to contain the red-hot Jason Jordan, who left The Revival reeling with picture-perfect dropkicks.

The Revival began to resort to nefarious tactics to keep American Alpha from retaining their titles. Dash & Dawson went back to cutting the ring in half, pummeling Gable and doing everything they could to keep the former Olympian from tagging Jordan in. However, Gable finally slipped out of their grasp and sent Jordan into action. Jordan bulldozed through Dash & Dawson, but was slowed down after being sent face-first into the turnbuckles.

All four men engaged in a big scramble, with American Alpha nearly hitting Grand Amplitude, but the wily challengers countered by nailing Jordan with the Shatter Machine to regain the titles and become the only two-time champions in NXT history.

American Alpha’s night, however, was not over. Jordan & Gable barely had any time to process that they had lost the NXT Tag Team Titles when they were ambushed by a pair of monsters clad in combat gear. The titans steamrolled over Jordan & Gable, leaving the former champions in a heap. The NXT Universe was stunned by the demolition, and even more shocked when WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering emerged to call the devastating duo to the back. Why is Ellering in NXT, and who has he unleashed on the tag team division?

NXT TakeOver: The End Preview: NXT Tag Team Champions American Alpha vs. The Revival

Jason Jordan & Chad Gable defend their titles against a furious Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder on June 8.

American Alpha will face their first major test as NXT Tag Team Champions at NXT TakeOver: The End…, when they defend against the team they dethroned in Dallas, The Revival.

Since losing the titles in the Lone Star State, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder have been in a surly mood. The Revival have demolished every team in their path, including The Hype Bros. Dawson & Wilder made it clear that there is no stopping them until they regain the NXT Tag Team Championship.

However, Jason Jordan & Chad Gable are not letting The Revival get into their heads. American Alpha has looked nearly unstoppable since capturing the titles. And when The Revival came out to take a closer look at their match on May 11, Jordan & Gable remained focused and went on to finish off a dominating victory. American Alpha dared Dash & Dawson to get in the ring and fight, but The Revival backed off, saying that they would wait until they got their guaranteed rematch.

The Revival won’t have to wait much longer, as NXT General Manager William Regal announced that the two teams will square off for the titles at TakeOver. Will the desperate duo of Dash & Dawson reclaim the coveted titles, or can American Alpha show why they’re the top dogs in NXT? Find out at NXT TakeOver: The End… on June 8, live and only on WWE Network!

NXT Tag Team Champions American Alpha def. John Skyler & Corey Hollis (Non-Title Match)

Returning to Full Sail University for the first time since capturing the NXT Tag Team Titles, American Alpha were given a hero’s welcome by the NXT Universe. Jason Jordan & Chad Gable basked in the reception as they picked apart John Skyler & Corey Hollis.

Despite their opponents bending the rules, the champions rebounded as The Revival came to get a closer look at American Alpha. Jordan & Gable remained focused on the match and connected with Grand Amplitude on Hollis to earn the victory. The NXT Tag Team Champions dared Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder to get in the ring with them after the bell, but The Revival backed away, saying that now was not the time for their rematch.

From reluctant partners to NXT Tag Team Champions,Chad Gable & Jason Jordan reflect on their path to glory.

“All of my hard work, the injuries and surgeries I suffered over the last five years, everything that I sacrificed and underwent to stick with it, it all finally paid off,” Jason Jordan revealed as he reflected on his and Chad Gable’s emotional NXT Tag Team Championship victory at NXT Takeover: Dallas.

Perhaps the victory for the team known as American Alpha has taught all of us a lesson in irony. Last July, the two Superstars formed what many thought would be a tentative partnership, at best. After all, it was Gable who spent weeks lobbying to be Jordan’s tag partner, much to Jordan’s chagrin.

“I take blame for the lukewarm start, because I was stubborn and wanted a tag partner that I handpicked myself,” Jordan confessed to “When I got over my ego, I realized that I had a potentially great tag partner, and he was begging for a chance to prove it. Once we officially teamed up, Chad and I had chemistry like no other.”

The chemistry that Jordan is referring to might be rooted in both men’s impressive amateur wrestling backgrounds. Between Jordan’s well-documented success at Indiana University and Chad Gable’s path toward competing at the Olympics, it seemed — on paper — that Gable & Jordan were destined for greatness. Gable credits their “warrior mentality” for the championship success of American Alpha.

“That warrior’s mentality comes from amateur wrestling,” he said. “We’ve experienced a lot of the exact same highs and lows, in competitive sports and in life, so it just works out that we are on the same page about most things.”

Being on the same page would pay dividends when Gable & Jordan defeated The Revival to capture the NXT Tag Team Championship in front of a raucous crowd during WrestleMania Week in Dallas. The energy of the moment was certainly not lost on Jordan.

“The crowd reactions have meant the world to us,” he said. “We understand how difficult it can sometimes be to earn the respect and win over our NXT Universe. That’s what made it so special and emotional when they chanted, ‘You deserve it!’”

Following the victory, both men sat alone in the locker room, not just soaking up the win but appreciating the perseverance that went into it. For Gable, that moment provided an opportunity to display some humility toward his partner.

“It was hard to try to settle down after being in front of that many people, but I also wanted to take the time and let Jason know how proud I was of him,” Gable said. “He’s been here grinding for so long, trying different things, different partners. I wanted to let him know what an honor it was to be standing with him when it finally culminated and paid off.”

Continually evolving their in-ring game plan, the NXT Tag Team Champions — who credit past duos like The Steiner Brothers, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and The Rockers, among others, as having a major influence on their style — are not resting on their laurels. Don’t let their success fool you; Jordan has made it clear that he and Gable understand how the road ahead only gets harder and the expectations will only reach new heights from here.

“Our path to the championship has taught us the importance of sticking to your guns no matter how difficult the road may be,” Jordan emphasized, “and that hard work and dedication will allow you to live your dreams!”

Stay Loud: WWE Superstars Divulge Their Favorite Cover Songs

Chad Gable (NXT Tag Team Champion)

“All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix. It’s hard for me to admit someone did one of Bob Dylan’s (my favorite artist of all time) songs better than he did, but even Dylan himself said that Hendrix did the definitive version of the song.
