The Usos def. American Alpha

After weeks of mind games, callouts and general paranoia, The Usos and American Alpha finally clashed on SmackDown LIVE in a non-title match. Jimmy & Jey were men possessed and Jason Jordan & Chad Gable put up a valiant effort in a competitive contest, but The Usos scored the win after Jey rolled up Jordan following Jimmy’s superkick, leaving the WWE Universe to wonder what would be next between these rival units.

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable the current boom in tag team wrestling, and competing at their very first WrestleMania in Orlando next month

For American Alpha – Jason Jordan and Chad Gable – it’s been an incredible 12 months.

At WrestleMania weekend last year, they performed at NXT TakeOver: Dallas, where they defeated The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championship in a thrilling match-up.

They debuted on the main roster in August and within four months became SmackDown Tag Team Champions, pinning 12-time world champ Randy Orton for the titles.

Since then, the duo has been an integral part of WWE’s renewed tag team division – the strongest it’s been in years.

And with their backgrounds in amateur wrestling – Gable even competed in the London 2012 Olympics – they’ve got an impressive arsenal of throws, suplexes, and mat skills.

Their athletic style recalls former WWE champ and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle, who they could end crossing paths with when he eventually returns to WWE television.

They talked to Sun Sport about Angle, the current boom in tag team wrestling, and competing at their very first WrestleMania in Orlando next month.

SmackDown’s Team Angle vs. SmackDown LIVE’s American Alpha

“Intelligence, Intensity & Integrity” vs. “Ready, Willing & Gable” just kind of sings, doesn’t it? SmackDown LIVE’s American Alpha are known for the same exact thing today. A clash between the two tandems would be WrestleMania-worthy … it’s damn true!

Article: GoMN.com – A MN Wrestling Success Story, ‘Chad Gable’ Set For WWE Smackdown In St. Paul

WWE Smackdown emanates live from the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Tuesday night, and there will be a Minnesota native among its top stars.

While University of Minnesota wrestling alum Brock Lesnar steals the spotlight as the “hometown favorite” when he appears with the WWE in the Twin Cities (even though he’s from South Dakota), the man going by the name Chad Gable is the real Minnesotan deal.

Gable is one half of “American Alpha,” lining up along with fellow former amateur wrestler Jason Jordan for the WWE Smackdown brand, where they don’t just compete as a tag team, they compete as the tag team champions.

He’s really called Chas Betts from St. Michael. After showing interest in wrestling from an early age, he came through the top-quality youth wrestling program at St. Michael-Albertville High School, winning a state championship in 2004, the Pioneer Press reported.

He then won a scholarship for Greco-Roman wrestling at the University of Northern Michigan’s Olympic Education Center.

If you take a look at some of the newspapers from five years ago, Betts was a regular feature as the then 25-year-old qualified for the London 2012 Olympics by winning an all-Minnesotan final in the 84-kilogram Greco-Roman class, beating Northfield native Jordan Holm.

He unfortunately didn’t make the medals in the Olympics, with SB Nation reporting he fell to Cuban Pablo Shorey Hernandez in the quarterfinals, though he still described the experiencing of competing at the Olympic level as “amazing and kind of unreal.”

The New Day for American Alpha

After beating every duo thrown at them during their historic 483-day Raw Tag Team Title reign, The New Day could use some new competition. SmackDown LIVE would need to crown new champions, but it’s a small price to pay for getting such a dynamic trio.

Why Raw should do it: Chad Gable & Jason Jordan have a future so bright that opponents need sunblock whenever they’re in the ring with these blue chippers.

Why SmackDown LIVE should do it: SmackDown LIVE welcomes a trio who redefined tag team competition to lead a division of upcoming squads like The Ascension and The Vaudevillains.

American Alpha def. Breezango

Fresh off their win in Tag Team Turmoil at Elimination Chamber and over The Ascension last week, American Alpha kept the momentum going when they fought their way back from an early ambush from Fandango and Tyler Breeze to defeat Breezango in convincing fashion this week on SmackDown LIVE.

However, immediately after their win, The Usos called out Chad Gable & Jason Jordan again, this week from the crowd. Ultimately, Jimmy & Jey did not seem ready to engage in combat and instead told them to lie awake knowing that “it’s not paranoia … it’s The Usos.”
